The Newest Carnival Ships In Order

newest carnival cruise ships

In 2019, Carnival Cruise Line gave the cruise ship a massive $200 million renovation and a name change to Carnival Sunrise. The vessel originally debuted in 1999 and was the second Destiny class ship. Carnival Jubilee is the third Excel-class ship with the cruise line and was entered into service in December of 2023.

How Many Cruise Ships Does Carnival Cruise Line Have in Their Fleet?

Look up and you’re honestly in for an eyeful — floor-to-ceiling windows, 14-foot LED screens, a ceiling of 1,400 color-changing lights… everything points to BIG FUN happening in here. And even if you’re just passing through, know that you’ll definitely be back later. Center Stage features a rotating selection of live entertainment, while Grand View Bar serves up great drinks with plenty to feast your eyes on. In Grand Central you're never far from cups of comfort at JavaBlue™ Café, great dining spots like Bonsai Sushi™ and Bonsai Teppanyaki™, plus feel-good entertainment like Piano Bar 88™ and The Punchliner Comedy Club™.

ONBOARD DINING

Located on Deck 8, The Shores is a zone inspired by the ways people enjoy the seaside including piers, boardwalks and beaches. Among the new venues in Currents is Dr.Inks, Ph.D, a bar adorned with eight crafty octopus arms that serves unique ocean-themed drinks, and the Golden Mermaid, a cocktail lounge that is home to a mysterious mermaid and offers live music. But the ship also offers some of the first real suites in the fleet, featuring separate living room and bedroom areas, bathrooms with separate tubs and showers, and walk-in closets. The regular battery of daily programming — trivia, game shows, pool games, etc. — also wasn't offered since there were no passengers. In other words, this wasn't a typical sailing, so my account is limited to the aspects of the ship I could experience.

The ship will feature the cruise line’s new Carnival Fun Italian Style experience, which debuts with the June 2023 arrival of Carnival Venezia in New York. Carnival Fun Italian Style incorporates Carnival’s signature high-energy environment, friendly team members and many familiar venues, plus several new, creative concepts – from Italian-themed restaurants, bars and entertainment. Here’s the most affordable way to experience Carnival Jubilee™, without cutting even a single corner in the comfort department. These two new ships are scheduled to debut in 2027 and 2028 and will be powered by LNG. This will bring the number of Excel class ships in Carnival’s fleet to five.

These screens are the center of the local entertainment, with interactive audio-visual elements that let kids, adults and everyone enjoy and add to the under-this-world seascapes! Plus there’s Seaquest, a show that virtually transforms the zone into a submarine on an adventure we’ll enjoy together. And with everything to see, don’t forget about the fantastical flavors, with Emeril’s Bistro 717™, Dr.Inks, Ph.D.™ and The Golden Mermaid™. Grand Central is designed to make an impression… and that’s good because it’s going to be your first one! You can count on Carnival Jubilee’s atrium to set the vacay vibes for your whole cruise.

Another offering is the tailgate party with games, dancing and prizes, where passengers can pretend they're getting ready to cheer on the fictitious Carnival University football team. When I sailed, I had a chance to see the full production of "Dear Future Husband," a show in which a group of singers and dancers boards a cruise ship for the wedding of two of their friends. When you're finished on Deck 7, the upper level of Currents, make your way up one more deck to The Shores, a beach- and boardwalk-centric zone that celebrates life above the sea instead of under it. There, you'll find the nautically themed Marina Bar, and the ship's deli, Beach Buns. Whatever you do, don't miss Coastal Slice, which serves free and delicious pizza.

It can be a pain to have to venture to a different area of the ship to grab food when your friends and family are looking at other dining options closer to the pool. Cabins in this section of the ship come in several configurations to suit different needs, and they include access to a dedicated lounge, allowing families to spend time together over snacks, drinks and even board games. Also scheduled are events that will allow you to make your own fish, which can be seen swimming by on the screens. And, throughout each sailing, passengers will have at least one chance to see the screens pulsating along, synthesizer style, to music that will play in the Currents corridor. At set times, you can head up one deck — via a staircase with a glittering blue wall that evokes the ocean, offset by a suspended school of swimming fish — to a kiosk that allows you to change the location.

What will Carnival Celebration be like on board?

I loved how the atrium area is now more incorporated into the daily flow of the ship, rather than an area you pass by to get somewhere else. The shows are stunning, with the action extending beyond the stage, including into the air. They make full use of the high-tech capabilities of the performance space.

Carnival Celebration is the second ship in the popular Excel Class and sister to Mardi Gras. Discover the latest and greatest Carnival ships that are currently out at sea. Carnival has made things a little confusing for Cruise Addicts by completely renaming and refurbishing some of its older vessels. If that wasn’t confusing enough, they have recently moved and renamed several ships from the Costa brand to Carnival Cruise Line. Carnival also has plans to move more Costa ships to Carnival in the future.

It's the way the ring-lit vanity mirror lights you evenly and shadow-free as you get ready. And even those reading lights, recessed into the wall so you can read in bed without waking anyone! Better comfort, lighting and storage all spring from a deep understanding we've developed around how people actually use their staterooms… and how small changes to the room add up to make the experience that much better. (Enough USB charging ports for everybody’s stuff? Oh yes!) Thoughtful, guest-centric design is how we do it… and all this in-room convenience comes paired with a fresh new look. He's cute, he knows how to chill… and flavor is everything to the little guy. We only just found out about the years he spent soaking up the sun among the grass skirts and frangipani flowers of the South Pacific where, he would tell you, it’s easy being red.

A forever fan of Farcus — I even have one of his piano bar tables in my living room, rescued from Carnival's former Tropicale — I think the design elements (the colors, the decor, the mixture of styles) are brilliant. Here, I'll run through the specifics of what I truly enjoyed while on board, and a few things that gave me pause. Additionally, although it's already built, Costa Firenze — which sailed its maiden voyage for Costa Cruises in 2021 — will become Carnival Firenze when the vessel transfers to Carnival in 2024. The ship debuted in 1996 under the name Carnival Destiny, but the cruise line gutted it, redesigned it from bow to stern and renamed it Carnival Sunshine in 2013. If you're interested in sorting by the year they were built, here's a list of the newest to oldest Carnival ships to help you figure out which is right for you.

Completing Carnival Cruise Line’s XL Class, the LNG-powered vessel will offer new features, in addition to bringing back several attractions of its sister ships Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration. The room stewards worked hard to make sure every cabin was sparkling and set up just perfectly. Even though some of the restaurants weren't open, waiters were in their uniforms to do dry runs of evening dinner service.
